Extraordinary meeting of the European Council Belgium

The European Council will hold an extraordinary meeting in Brussels to discuss the financing of the European Union for the period 2021-2027. The leaders of the member states will discuss how to reach a compromise between the demands of individual member states.

The main issue on the agenda is the increase in the EU budget for the next seven years. The European Commission has proposed an increase of 1.7%, but some member states, such as the Netherlands and Austria, are opposed to this increase. The leaders will also discuss the use of the EU budget to support Ukraine and to address the global food crisis.

The meeting is expected to be difficult, as the member states have different priorities. However, it is important for the EU to reach a consensus on the financing of the next budget, as this will determine the future of the European Union.

Here are some of the key issues that the leaders are expected to discuss:

  • The increase in the EU budget for the next seven years
  • The use of the EU budget to support Ukraine
  • The use of the EU budget to address the global food crisis

The leaders will also discuss other issues, such as the security situation in Europe and the global economy.
