Shaheedi Diwas

Shaheedi Diwas, or Martyrs' Day, is a day to commemorate the sacrifices of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar, and Shivaram Rajguru. These three young men were executed by the British Raj on March 23, 1931, for their role in the assassination of John Saunders, a British police officer.

Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar, and Shivaram Rajguru were all members of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA), a revolutionary organization that was fighting for India's independence. They were inspired by the ideals of Bhagat Singh's mentor, Chandrashekhar Azad, who believed that armed struggle was the only way to achieve independence.

On April 8, 1929, Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev Thapar shot and killed John Saunders, a British police officer who was responsible for the death of Lala Lajpat Rai, a prominent Indian leader. They were arrested and put on trial. During the trial, Bhagat Singh used his platform to deliver a passionate speech in which he condemned British rule and called for India's independence.

Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar, and Shivaram Rajguru were found guilty and sentenced to death. They were hanged on March 23, 1931, at the age of 23, 24, and 23, respectively.

The execution of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar, and Shivaram Rajguru sparked a wave of protests across India. Their sacrifice inspired a new generation of freedom fighters and helped to hasten the end of British rule.

Shaheedi Diwas is a day to remember the sacrifices of these three young men and to reaffirm our commitment to the ideals of freedom, equality, and justice.
